TIPS & TRICKS




For those of you who couldn't make it to class this week, here is a snapshot of my explanation of Compositional Elements, courtesy of Binh.




Here is a paintover I did on Shan's character design. When it comes to painting I find it hard to rely only on verbal and conceptual explanations. So you can watch this boring process video of me basically going over all the shapes and just sort of ... designing everything.

And here are also some ideas I concepted for students throughout the class:

One about the idea of "bevelling" as a simple approach to creating surface detail


This one is about turning the character sideways in a turnaround: see how the feet now straddle the center line. Keep in mind the floorplane when drawing the feet!

If you don't, they were about restricting the minimum size of your details in order to get a coherent design.
